ECR 2022 celebrates return to Vienna

On July 13, 2022, the time had finally come at the Austria Center Vienna, one of three convention centers close to the city center in the Meeting Destination Vienna: After two years of switching to online formats due to the pandemic, the European Congress of Radiology, one of the largest and most innovative medical congresses in Europe, returned home. From July 13 to 17, around 15,000 participants (on-site and online) from all over the world took part in the truly hybrid congress.

"I am overwhelmed by the number of people who chose to embrace this congress and its theme of Building Bridges", says Regina Beets-Tan, President of the European Society of Radiology (ESR).

Program highlights and new formats

The ECR 2022 had some highlights to offer. After the impressive opening ceremony, among others with the Vienna Arts Orchestra, new formats awaited the participants: In "Open Forums", which took place at four locations in open spaces around the congress center, exciting topics of the industry were discussed and the educational and research activities of the ESR were presented. For the first time, the "Patients in Focus" program was held in parallel with the European Congress of Radiology. The multi-day format focuses on the dialogue with patients. Also new: The Summer Lounge - the perfect place for participants to get together between lectures. In addition, the possibility of COVID-19 vaccination was offered here.

In addition, 2022 also saw the return of the AI Exhibition and Theater – as the name suggests, it was all about Artificial Intelligence and the future of radiology – and the "Cube". It deals with interventional radiology (IR), the "Simulator Adventure Park" was one of the most popular aspects.
