The Vienna Convention Bureau was established in 1969 as a department of the Vienna Tourist Board with the help of the city of Vienna and the Vienna Chamber of Commerce and has been supported ever since.
The Vienna Convention Bureau has no members , but is itself a member in the leading umbrella organisations and associations for the national and international meeting industry: ACB, AMCI, ICCA, PCMA and UIA.
On average every 8th overnight stay in Vienna is generated by participants of congresses, conferences, corporate events or incentives. The exceptional meeting infrastructure, the high service quality of the meeting service sector as well as the cultural attractiveness of the city are all factors that contribute to making Vienna a top destination worldwide for international meetings.
Vienna's meeting industry is represented by the "Meeting Destination Vienna". It is based on the service quality and expertise of the same and is communicated by the Vienna Convention Bureau. Meeting Destination Vienna is one of the three core action areas of Vienna Tourist Board's Visitor Economy Strategy 2025. In addition, Meeting Destination Vienna is prominently anchored in the strategy "Vienna 2030 - Economy & Innovation" of the Federal Capital Vienna – as an essential component of the thematic area "Place of International Encounter" – one of a total of six areas of leadership that build on the existing strengths of the location and further expand them.
The Vienna Convention Bureau has set itself the task of promoting awareness on sustainable actions in the sector and supports initiatives and projects on the topics of Green Meetings, sustainability and corporate social responsibility. As a guideline for all activities, a specific mission statement was formulated. You can find more information about this in the chapter Sustainability.
The activities of the Vienna Convention Bureau include the acquisition of national and international association congresses, corporate events and incentives, as well as the servicing of meeting planners. In addition to international marketing, the Vienna Convention Bureau also acts as a funding agency for the Vienna Meeting Fund 2022-2024 and the Vienna Meeting Fund 2025-2028 and publishes the annual Vienna Meeting Industry Report.
