In 2025, Vienna’s meeting industry achieved the best results in its long-term record, reaching new all-time highs both economically and statistically.
Over the course of the year, a total of 7,196 business events were held (+9%), attracting 794,812 participants (+19%). These meetings generated 2,545,348 overnight stays (+27%), accounting for 13% of Vienna’s total overnight stays. This means that every eighth overnight stay in Vienna was attributable to meeting participants. Corporate meetings, incentives and congresses generated a nationwide economic impact of EUR 1.71 billion including tax revenues of EUR 348 million. Of this, the federal government benefited from EUR 223 million, regional governments and municipalities from EUR 125 million, and the City of Vienna from EUR 39 million. The meeting industry secured 19,300 full-year jobs across Austria.
General Overview
With a total of 2,614 congresses held (+19%, including 853 international and 1,761 national congresses) and 5,390 congress days (+19%), Vienna’s congress performance in 2025 reached new record levels within the long-term observation period. The contribution of international congresses is particularly noteworthy. Although they accounted for only 12% of all meetings, they represented 39% of all participants, 61% of overnight stays, as well as 48% of the contribution to GDP (EUR 828 million) and 49% of the tax revenues generated for the City of Vienna (EUR 19 million).
The average duration of congresses remained stable at 2.8 days for international and 1.7 days for national congresses. The average number of participants was 364 for international congresses (2024: 333, +9%) and 93 for national congresses (2024: 99, –6%).
Medical congresses once again dominated Vienna’s congress landscape in 2025, both in the national and international segments. They accounted for 48% of all overnight stays generated by congresses. Formal and natural sciences followed with 12%, humanities with 10%, and technology with 7%. As one of the United Nations headquarters, Vienna also recorded a notable share of congresses related to the organization, accounting for 7%.
Corporate meetings also continued to grow in 2025, particularly in terms of overnight stays generated. A total of 4,582 events were held (+4%), attracting 320,971 participants (+19%) and generating 838,522 overnight stays (+63%). In the international segment, the number of corporate events remained almost stable (2024: 2,155; 2025: 2,158), while the number of participants increased by 11% to 189,844 and overnight stays rose significantly by 62%. National corporate events recorded increases in the number of events (+7%), participants (+32%), and overnight stays (+70%). Corporate events generated a GDP contribution of EUR 705 million, including total tax revenues of EUR 143 million. This highlights their growing importance within Vienna’s meeting industry. The City of Vienna (as both province and municipality) benefited from EUR 16 million in tax revenues generated by corporate events alone.
In terms of industry sectors, corporate events in 2025 were primarily driven by banking/finance and business (41%), followed by technology (19%) and healthcare (16%). The largest share of corporate meetings, measured by participant overnight stays, was generated by companies based in Austria (31%), followed by the United Kingdom (16%), Germany (12%), and the United States (11%).
In 2025, a total of 230 association congresses, seminars, and corporate events in Vienna were awarded the “Öko-Event of the City of Vienna” distinction. Additionally, 210 events were certified with the Austrian Ecolabel for Green Meetings & Green Events. Across Austria, a total of 320 congresses and corporate events were certified as Green Meetings in 2025, of which 66% (210) took place in Vienna.
In summary, Vienna’s meeting industry in 2025 once again demonstrated strong economic impact, international visibility, and sustainable performance. Congresses and corporate events made a significant contribution to employment, boosted overnight tourism, and further positioned Vienna as a central platform for global knowledge exchange.
