Congress activity was again driven primarily by the human medicine sector, accounting for a record-high 43% of all congress-related overnight stays. This was followed by events in the fields of formal and natural sciences (12%), and human disciplines as well as politics (each at 9%).

The share of human medicine congresses varied from 30% among national congresses to 44% for international ones. Ranking second and third for national congresses were the fields of politics (23%) and human disciplines (16%), while for international congresses, formal and natural sciences (13%) and United Nations-related topics (9%) took those spots.

In 2024, national congresses recorded an average of 99 participants (-8%) per congress, while international congresses welcomed an average of 333 participants (+3%). The average duration remained unchanged compared to the previous year: 1.7 days for national and 2.8 days for international congresses.

Congress-related activity is expected to generate a GDP impact of €1.03 billion in 2024, with 93% stemming from international congresses. The GDP per participant overnight stay amounts to €473 for national and €715 for international congresses.

Employment effects correspond to 17,161 full-time equivalent jobs, reflecting the increase in value creation.

The City of Vienna (in its role as both province and municipality) will benefit from €35 million in tax revenue induced by congresses in 2024.
