UEG Week 2024 in Vienna

This October, the United European Gastroenterology Week (UEG Week for short) – one of the most important international congresses for gastroenterology and hepatology – will return to Meeting Destination Vienna for the 6th time. Up to 12,000 participants are expected to attend the hybrid event at the Messe Wien Exhibition & Congress Center and online. The interactive scientific agenda promises plenty of highlights. Participating experts will, for example, have the opportunity to interact in every session either in person or virtually in real time via a Q&A tool.

New approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive system will be discussed in interdisciplinary sessions. Particular emphasis will be placed on innovative, technical advances in the non-invasive management of gastrointestinal and hepatological diseases as well as translational and basic research.

Topical highlights of this year’s UEG Week will include:

  • Crash courses in which participants are given updated information on topics related to their daily clinical routines.
  • "Mistakes in..." - Sessions with tips and know-how that go beyond what’s in the textbook. The presentations will focus on common errors and rare mistakes that have a significant clinical impact on patients and daily clinical practice.
  • "Never waste a good disaster" – tandem lectures on potentially avoidable mistakes and wrong decisions in day-to-day clinical practice.
  • "Emergency training in endoscopy" – this workshop is intended for endoscopists and endoscopy assistants who regularly perform endoscopic procedures together. The training will be conducted in small groups and will be delivered by the experienced training institute, LMU Munich.
  • Plenary session – the scientific agenda will officially kick off with the Opening Lecture on October 13, awards will be presented for the best abstracts and Research Prize presentations will be given.
  • ESGE Live Endoscopy – during Live Endoscopy, top international experts will demonstrate the latest techniques and basic procedures.

Focus on sustainability

UEG Week is actively taking steps to make its congress more environmentally friendly. This includes a number of initiatives, such as reducing the total amount of printed material, disposable items and plastic consumption in catering and packaging. Recycled materials have been chosen for congress bags and lanyards, for example. Participants will also be asked to bring reusable water bottles that can be refilled at the event.

Sustainability also played an important role in the selection of venue (good public accessibility, conscious environmental initiatives) and partners. Participants will be encouraged to travel by train and public transport and will be offered corresponding discounts.
