Traveling to Vienna by Plane

The Austrian capital enjoys a first-class reputation among international meeting organizers.  Located in the heart of Europe, the city serves as a hub linking East and West. And it has a pivotal role to play in the Central and Eastern European air traffic system. Vienna can be reached from all European capitals in under three hours by air. Around 60 airlines provide regular connections to and more than 160 destinations worldwide. In addition to numerous European countries, Vienna primarily serves destinations in North and Central America, Asia and Africa. Non-stop flights to the east and west coasts of the USA, as well as Canada, China and Thailand are among its flagship services.

Vienna International Airport, the nation's largest and most important airport, is located in Schwechat in Lower Austria, less than 20 kilometers southeast of the city center. Thanks to the short distances involved, it takes virtually no time at all to get to the city center. The airport is also perfectly integrated into the wider transportation network. Passengers can travel to the heart of Vienna by rail using the CAT (City Airport Train, 16 minutes non-stop) service or by taking public transport (train, S-Bahn rapid transit, bus).

Enormously important for the city and the region as a transport hub, Vienna International Airport recorded more than 23 million passengers in 2022 (75% of the record 31 million reported in pre-pandemic  2019). In addition, its owners are committed to pursuing an ambitious sustainability strategy which saw operations at the airport go fully carbon-neutral in January 2023. Solar power plays a major role: in 2023, the number of panels will increase to 100,000 – enough to cover around 40% of the airport's electricity demand.

Austrian Airlines Hub

Austrian Airlines, the nation’s largest airline, is based at Vienna International Airport. Known locally as AUA,  the carrier operates an average of 360 flights per day to around 130 national and international destinations. The global flight network guarantees optimal coverage for events, with a wide range of customized packages for meeting organizers.
