Vienna to host the 70th Eurovision Song Contest in 2026 - United by Music again
Fans from Europe, and all over the world should mark three key dates in their calendars for 2026: the first semifinal on May 12 and the second semifinal on May 14, both at Vienna's Wiener Stadthalle. The Grand Final will take place on May 16. Thousands of fans from across the globe, as well as more than 1,500 accredited media representatives, are expected to travel to Vienna for the world's biggest entertainment event.
Michael Ludwig, Mayor of Vienna:
"We are so proud that Vienna has been chosen by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) as the city best suited to host one of the largest events worldwide. We have submitted a strong bid including a large accommodation capacity, excellent infrastructure, and a wealth of experience in hosting international events. In addition, we have focused on offering numerous free non-commercial public ESC events. As Mayor of Vienna, it is very important to me that cultural events are accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial means. I would also like to congratulate Innsbruck for competing with Vienna with such passion, even if it did not work out this time. As Mayor of Vienna, I am obviously very happy that Vienna won the bid and will represent Austria again next year. I am sure that we will have a fabulous time together next May."
Norbert Kettner, CEO of the Vienna Tourist Board:
"With Vienna and the Eurovision Song Contest, two things come together that truly belong together: the cosmopolitan capital of culture and music, and the world’s biggest music show with unmatched brilliance. Now it's time to shine once again as a host for Europe and the world, and to deliver an unforgettable 70th Eurovision Song Contest next year. Vienna is ready to leave a lasting impression on the international stage - and we couldn’t be more excited!"
The Austrian capital brings a compelling mix of strengths to the table: world-class infrastructure, extensive experience with major events, seamless accessibility, and a welcoming, open-minded spirit. These attributes make Vienna uniquely qualified to once again host Europe's most beloved music event, having already delivered an acclaimed ESC in 2015.
Vienna has established itself as one of the world's leading meeting destinations, a status reflected in international benchmarks such as the ICCA Statistics Report 2024, where Vienna ranks 1st worldwide, and the UIA International Meetings Statistics 2024, which places the city 2nd globally.
Vienna hosts more than 6,000 congresses and corporate events every year with up to 20.000 participants and is no stranger to large-scale public gatherings, including global sports competitions and multi-day concerts. With over 82,000 hotel beds across 433 properties, the city is well-equipped to accommodate the thousands of artists, journalists, and fans expected in 2026. Public transport and airport connections are among the best in Europe - Vienna is reachable via direct flights from 195 cities in 65 countries and boasts the continent's leading night train network.
Anita Paic, Head of Vienna Convention Bureau:
"What sets Vienna apart is not only its logistical strengths, but also its values. As a city committed to sustainability, Vienna can host the ESC without the need for new infrastructure. Its inclusive and future-oriented approach to hospitality has already earned high praise - 79% of ESC media professionals rated the 2015 contest in Vienna as "better" or "much better" than previous editions, citing top marks in friendliness, accessibility, and audience atmosphere."
In 2026, the ESC returns not just to a city, but to a vibrant, international metropolis that stands for solidarity, creativity, and openness. With Vienna as the host, Europe is once again united by music - together, sustainably, and in style.
